Today Angie and I visited Ellis Island and Liberty Island. Did you know they were 2 different islands? I didn't. We took an 8 a.m. ferry (which left at 8:50 a.m.) from Liberty park in NJ and got off first at Ellis Island. We took a audio tour of the facility which processed 12 million immigrants into the U.S. in the early 1900s. I didn't know much about this place so it was fascinating (really fascinating not fake fascinating).
Then we went to the Statue of Liberty which had tighter security than the airlines. We stood in line about 1 and a half hours for security but once in it was fine. You don't go up to the crown any more, just to the base. The statue itself was a gift from the French, and the base was built by Americans. Another beautiful view!
It's Fleet Week in NY so lots of sailors in beautiful dress whites. Whoo hoo!!
We had a quiet evening at home visiting and eating pizza.
Who hoo is right! So cool. Sorry you can't go all the way up to the crown anymore, but that's probably a good idea.
ReplyDeleteRemembering my own visit with Angie to Ellis Island and the Statue. It's a great historical story -- hard to explain, so I'm glad we can all share in the memory now.
ReplyDeleteLove you!
Oh I forgot to say that I wish I had been there for FLEET WEEK. That's HOT!!!! I remember there was a sex and the city episode about that!
