Friday, May 25

Arrived in Newark NJ at 8:00 a.m. on Continental Express from Dayton. Angie and Matthew picked me up and it was joyous to see them. We went to Matthew' apartment in Jersey City which is a highrise right on the Hudson Bay. From his apartment front room you can see the Manhattan skyline where the twin towers used to be. It's like he lives in a postcard!

In the afternoon the three of us took the PATH train, which is just one of their million transit systems around here,to the World Trade Center station. Interestingly, you can't really see the site anymore. There's no viewing platform or placards or anything. It's under construction for the new building and it's blocked from view.

From there we took a taxi cab to mid-town. My first NY taxi. Very nice, clean, with a little tv screen in the back seat. We bought lunch in a deli and ate at Bryant Park. The weather is gorgeous. We also went to Crumbs and had one of their famous cupcakes. Then we went to Angie's office in the Mercer Building and looked out from her 42nd floor office to another beautiful view.

We walked from there to Times Square. Many of the Broadway shows have a lottery where they sell 28 or so front row tickets for $20 an hour and a half before the show. We signed up for the lottery for Wicked, but our name didn't get called. So we took a cab and the train and came home. This short summary does NOT reflect how much walking we did. We were pretty sore, but it was a lot of fun.
